Sony Ericsson this morning has unveiled a pair of low-cost phones it expects will bring something new to the category. The K330 stands as one of the company’s least expensive ever camera phones with a VGA sensor that allows both standard shots as well as video capture, a rarity in the class; enough memory is onboard to store 250 still images or less for videos. The phone also supports Bluetooth and comes with an FM radio to fill in its music support. Sony Ericsson plans to launch the K330 it during the summer.
Simpler still, the J132 is more explicitly aimed at emerging countries where just the basics are needed. It strips out the camera but uses a dust-resistant keypad less likely to fall apart in harsh climates. An FM radio is its primary feature and combines with an alarm clock function to stand in for a dedicated bedside stereo. Unusually for the J series, the company plans to ship both North American and international versions in the fall.
