Motorola is not new in manufacturing messaging phones, but recently they have been producing more smart phones like the Charm and Droid 2 which are most popular Android smart phones in U.S market. Still it does not indicate that they are not good in making messaging handsets. It has recently launched Motorola Grasp after partnering with U.S Cellular. It is very simple handset with squared design, optical track pad and QWERTY keyboard. The design is not great and it lacks multimedia features, but it is eco-friendly design and has EV-DO. It is very cheap and costs around 39.95 for 2 years contract and comes along with mail-in rebate of 50 dollars.

You can mistake this handset for Blackberry when you see it first since it has been designed in same candy bar style having curved edges, an optical track pad and QWERTY keyboard similar to Blackberry handsets. But you can find it is different when you look at it closely. The phone measures 3.7x.2.4×0.51 inches and is thicker and shorter compared to Blackberry headsets while the plastic appears somewhat cheap. The optical track pad is very easy to use and makes navigation through menus very simple.
It has a strange design tweak, the keyboard and display are offset slightly to right which does not impact usability, but it makes the phone appears a little cockeyed. But we must appreciate Motorola for manufacturing the phone using pollution free materials and it has been claimed that the entire phone is 100% recyclable after using it.
One major design drawback is 2.2 inch display with low resolution of 220×176 pixels with support only for 65,000 colors which is very disappointing. Graphics are not attractive and text is not very smooth as modern smart phones. The clock format, backlight, brightness, contrast, menu font size and menu layout can be customized as per your wish. There are 2 skinny soft keys, the messaging key, send key, Power Key, Back key and optical track pad are present below the display. The optical track is same as those in Blackberry handsets like Curve 3G which is very responsive and easy to use. The QWERTY keyboard also contains a dedicated control for camera is very comfortable for text messaging. The keys are raised above surface and have curved shape which is similar to keyboard found in Motorola charm. The typing of text can be easy without errors, but you need to press them hard for your strokes to get reflected. The speakerphone key and volume rocker is present on left spine while on right spine you can find a voice command key. The key guard lock, and 3.5mm headphone jack is found on top of the phone while on the rear side is the camera lens. In order to insert microSD card, you must remove the battery cover. You can store up to 1000 contacts in the phone book with 5 phone number, birth date, URL, address, email, anniversary date etc. The text and multimedia messaging is very easy to use. The 1.3 megapixel camera is good for taking pictures but not videos. The call quality is good and it has battery life of 5.3 hours with standby time of 17.9 days. It is lightweight and compact phone which has been manufactured using eco-friendly materials and is good choice for average users.
