While relatively unknown in the Europe and America, Amoi Electronics looks set to make a splash in the ever competitive music phone market in 2008. They have joined up with Kuro Technology to bring two music mobile phone offerings to the market and the early indications are that they will sell very well. So what have the Amoi A616 and Amoi A636 got to offer?
While much of the mobile phone market has moved beyond the traditional call technology, the Amoi A616 and Amoi A636 handsets are centred around the delivery of copyrighted music content – something which has been sadly lacking in the Chinese market. Using the latest Spreadtrum chips available the phones offer a vast array of multi-media services through both the inbuilt media player and online connectivity. They have made a major play for the ever popular karaoke market which originated from the Far East.
The chips used are able to support 2G, 2.5G, 3G and 3.5G handsets, thereby offering Amoi a potential product line which can move right from the bottom to the top. When you learn that the Amoi A616 and Amoi A636 offer access to literally millions of copyrighted song play, as well as original music and celebrity photographs, there is a very definite move away from the functionality of the traditional European phone – in some ways the call service is second to the sound capabilities.
Saying that we must not forget that these are actually mobile phone handset and offer call services, internet connectivity and a whole host of other services you would expect. If they do decide to move these phones into the European market, they have the potential to make a major splash n the music phone market. Will they dare venture into foreign markets? We will probably hear more news in 2008
