The Nokia X3 Touch and type is a good handset with lot of features including 5-megapixel camera, touch screen interface and lot of wireless connectivity options. Also, the phone is priced at $170 for unlocked versions which is very cheap compared to expensive smart phones in today’s market. With X3 services like Ovi music not available in states and sluggish interface, the phone is not very much tempting for U.S customers who might switch to alternatives like HTC Aria that has more features for same price though they need to sign up contract.
Nokia X3 Touch and Type is very small and compact with 4.2×1.9×0.4 inches and weighs around 2.8 ounces which is slightly bigger than XPeria Mini from Sony Ericson but is lighter than it and slimmer. The phone fits into your pant pockets easily and does not look bulky and its candy-bar style design is comfortable for holding while making phone calls. Also the solid construction and smooth finish gives an appealing view for it. The screen size is smaller and measures diagonally around 2.4 inches and is not good for surfing or watching streaming videos. Also it lacks built-in accelerometer, proximity sensor or pinch-to-zoom support option. There is a 12-button alphanumeric spacious keypad which is very comfortable to use.

Also, there is onscreen virtual keyboard since screen size is very small and you must use alphanumeric 12 button keypad for entering text. There is predictive text feature available in this phone making it easier for composing messages. Also, the spacious keypad makes it easy to entering messages and you need not worry about mis-presses. There is extra column for symbol buttons and specific functions. The shortcuts for media player, messaging, Power Key and Talk keys are present below the phone’s display.
The lock button and volume rocker is present on phone’s right side while the micro-USB charging port, power connector and 3.5mm headset jack are present at device top. There is also proprietary power connector found in standard Nokia phones. The microSD card slot and camera are present on rear side. You get a reference material, stereo headset and AC adapter along with Nokia X3 Touch and Type.
The phone runs on S40 platform and can not be considered as full-fledged smart phone like Nokia N8 which is based on Symbian-3. The X3 also has certain other features matching its price range. There is messaging application, windows live, Gmail, Ovi mail and IMAP as well as POP3 email accounts. You can easily setup your Yahoo and Gmail accounts in the phone. It has Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth connectivity. The picture quality of 5 megapixel camera is good and it has 4x digital zoom option but lacks attached flash. The call quality and performance of the phone is decent for its size. The phone has average battery life with talk time extending up to 5 hours. Though the phone is sluggish, it has good connectivity features and calls quality and is good choice for average buyers.
